I just completed the p90x workout program; 90 straight days of intense fitness in my garage where the temperature this summer averaged at about 110 degrees F). At a rate of 1h20 minutes a day, 7 days a week, for 12 weeks in a row, I completed over 45000 total repetitions of insane exercises including nearly 5000 push ups, 4400 pull ups, and close to 12000 ab ripping crunches; amongst others.

I needed a change of pace from my regular workout routine, so I decided to take on the p90x program for the duration of  Summer 2009. My regular fitness schedule allowed me to jump right into the program without any troubles and keep up with the trainers from day 1 until day 90. My sessions took place in the 110 degrees heat of my garage around 6pm Monday through Friday (after getting home from a full day of work), Saturdays at 9am, and Sundays at 4pm.

My lifestyle has always been pretty well balanced; and eating healthy is second nature for me. I did not make any modifications to my regular diet, nor did I follow the p90x diet plan. My body fat level is 6%; while exercising, my body easily burned calories due to the high intensity of the program.

I consistently lost 5lbs of water (sometimes 7lbs) per workout throughout the program from sweating excessively. Therefore I supplemented by drinking protein shakes and eating protein bars after every workout for recovery and balance. On average, I ate between 6 and 7 times per day; my last meal was always around midnight or 1 AM.

If I were do it all over again, the only thing I would change would be my sleeping habits to better my recovery in time for the next workout. I slept an average of 3 to 5 hours a night the entire summer, which was not very wise, but it’s the nature of my lifestyle.

Since I completed the program a little over 3 weeks ago, I’ve been doing a lot of running and stretching. The program has helped me regain some intensity and flexibility.

I have since then started going back to the gym and I am currently following a personal and lighter workout regiment I created for myself the for next 3 months or so. I will post it in a few weeks once it’s fine tuned.
